Everyone knows I love Matt Bomer.
Everyone knows that he is an amazing actor and everyone knows that he’s gay. Everyone
loves to watch him yet their reactions about his sexuality remain the same
orthodox and disapproving look accompanied by the expression “eww” or “gross”.
Guys, seriously? Are we still in the 1980’s?
I used to think that old people or
people of the past generation are the ones who are not accepting. But I was
wrong. My mother is more accepting than most of my friends. It’s heartbreaking
to see this generation, the youth of tomorrow, make the same mistakes as the
youth of yesterday. I thought we were supposed to be the people to make a
change, make the world a better place. Yet here we are right where we started.
We are supposed to be open minded and
welcoming and provide our children an environment to express themselves in a
way that we never could. We are supposed to see past what the society deems
correct and finally start being human. We are supposed to be kind and humane. We
are all humans; we all have the capacity to love. Who we choose to love is
completely our choice. How can we tell someone who to love and who not to love?
Since when do we have that authority to take away someone’s right to freedom of
choice and opinion?
I want to create an environment in which
the children of tomorrow are not afraid to come out, express themselves and
live their lives the way they want to.
It’s time…
